  • Reviews & actions
  • Product summery
  • Monthly sales status

Get started with products

Products are the core of what Mepstores standing for and we understand the importance of detailed product guidelines which will enable you to understand the product when it comes to listing them online. In this guidelines you will learn modern eCommerce terminologies which will help you to understand about the product even further.

I. Type of products in Mepstores:

  1. Simple Products
  2. Variable Products

01. What is a simple product, and how do I define them?

As the name suggest, Simple Products are the easiest products to understand and manage. Simple products represent a single item that unique, stand-alone and it doesn't have any attributes. (What is attributes will be covered below)

02. What is variable product, and how do I define them?

A variable product has different variations or versions that a customer can choose from. A typical example would be a shirt which is available in different sizes and different colour. This will allows you to create a single product with different attributes such as length, width, height, density etc.

02. How do I create a simple product?

To create a product you may navigate to Dashboard → Products → Add new product

When you click on Add new product you will be asking to input several information such as;

  1. Product name
  2. Product image
  3. Product category
  4. Product brand

Understanding the importance of product name:

product names must be same as how you call the product in the real world. It is important to understand product name is only piece of information customer searches online. Therefore good product name would help you to draw customer attention.

Product image;

Everybody loves clean, good looking images. There are numerous studies suggest that the product with good looking image can draw customer attention than the others. Therefore "product images with white background" considered as generally good. You can set a main image as well as product gallery images as you prefer.

Product category:

There are six type of product categories you can choose from as follows;

  1. Electrical
  2. ELV & Automation
  3. Fire alarm & Fire fighting
  4. HVAC
  5. Plumbing & Drainage
  6. Tools & Machineries

We believe that any products in the MEP industry can be classified within these six categories. However we still open to add more categories if needed and applicable. Feel free to reach us out via support@mepstores.com

Product brand:

Products brand is something straight forward you may select your product brand form the available list. New brands will be added upon request.

Once you add all of these required informations you may click on continue which will takes you to the detailed product page.

II. Enter additional product info

All the previously entered informations such as product name, images, category, brand will be auto populated here you can enter further information in this page as following;

  • Product Type
  • Regular price
  • Sales price
  • Tags
  • Short description
  • Product specification/Catalogue
  • Inventory
  • Shipping and Tax
  • Linked Products
  • Discount options
  • Other options

We will help you to understand each of these sections in detail in order to further explain the process.

1. Product Type:

This is the most important choice you make throughout this entire process. Therefore it is important to decide which product type you have to select. There are two kind of product to choose from as follows

  1. simple product
  2. Variable product

2. Regular Price:

This is the regular price normally you'd sell in your physical store.

3. Sale Price:

Sale price Is the final selling price which should attract the potential customer to select your product from the others. Sale price must be lower than regular price.

4. Tags:

Product tags are descriptive labels you can add to your products. Tag will help to list your product in search results such as google. You can assign as many or as few tags as necessary to help organize and describe your products, however it is advised to keep the number of tags as five.

5. Short description:

Short description are the general description which describe your product. This is a vital piece of information which will help customer to find the right product. Therefore vendors must add short description for their products. 

6. Product specification/Catalogue:

Here you can add such as long description, technical specification or upload a specification sheet.

7. Inventory:

Inventory will help you to manage your inventory as well as it will acknowledge your customer about how many products are in stock. So they may place order accordingly. 

  • SKU
  • Stock status
  • Stock Quantity
  • Low stock threshold
  • Allow backorders 

SKU or stock keeping unit is a unique product identifier such as part code, manufacturer bar code which will help you to easily find the product.

Stock status:

Stock status which you can set as. So your customer would know the status of your product before placing the order.

  • In stock
  • Out of stock
  • On backorders

Stock Quantity:

Stock quantity is the number of products which is in stock. This must be the actual quantity which is available in your stock. 

Low stock threshold:

When you defining a low stock threshold (in numbers) customer can't place order when your total stock quantity reaches equal to that number. 

Allow backorders:

Allowing to backorder means giving your customers an option to still purchase your products even when you don’t have enough in stock – creating backordered items. by default this set is to "do not allow" However you can change as you prefer.

7. Shipping and Tax:

Here you can assign shipping classes such as whether this product has free delivery or self collection and so forth.

8. Linked Products:

Linked products are the relevant products which is in the same category or product type. You can select the relevent products if you have such one or leave it empty. There two kind of linked product you could add as following:

  1. Upsells

    Upsells are products which you recommend instead of the currently viewed product, for example, products that are more profitable or better quality or more expensive.

  2. Cross-sells

    Cross-sells are products which you promote in the cart, based on the current product.

9. Discount Options:

Discount options enable you to add bulk discount when your customer buy your product above certain quantity. You can define minimum quantity as well as the discounts in %.

10. Other Options:

Other options will allow you to save your product data as draft which you can publish later. As well as you can add purchase note to the customer which will be emailed along with order summery if needed.
